Because HIV by itself will hardly kill an individual directly, but likely through opportunistic infections or cancers, it is safe to say that there are certain things one can do to live a very healthy long live, even with this infection. Some of them are listed below:
- REGULAR CHECK OF VIRAL LOAD AND CD4 COUNT IS VERY IMPORTANT;
The CD4 count is an indication of the level of healthy white blood cells (t cells), in the body ready to fight infection in one’s body. Normal range is 500 to 1500cells/mm3. However, the virus infects and destroy these cells, reducing the body’s ability to protect itself, and opening the person up to unusual infections, that the body should have normally been able to control. A value below 200 is considered as Aids.
The viral load on the other hand shows the amount of virus in the person’s blood. It helps to evaluate the effectiveness of the anti-retroviral drugs over time. An undetectable level(<50 copies/ml) is the aim. At this level, the individual cannot transmit the virus to their sexual partners, and live a very healthy live with virtually no continued complication of the virus.
Cheers! Do have a lovely day!!!
